Competative Events
Welcome to the competitive events page!
As you may know, FBLA recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. At the State Leadership Conferences, members compete in events testing their business knowledge and skills. Top state winners are then eligible to compete for national awards at the National Leadership Conference each summer. It is
always great to have help and study for these events so you can do your best to get to the top! Help for some events will be provided below. Remember our National FBLA page has the best information!

This event consists of two parts: an objective test and a production test. Participants must complete both parts to be eligible to win an award. A one hour objective test will be administered based on the objective test competencies. The score received on this portion of the event will constitute fifteen percent of the final event score. One hour will be given for the school-site production test at a site designated by the state chair/state adviser. The score received on this portion of the event will constitute 85 percent of the final event score. Tests must be sent by the state chair/state adviser or designee and received by the national centerfor judging by the third Friday in May.
Things you should be ready for on the test are: related application knowledge, document formatting rules and standards, basic keyboarding terms and concepts, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and proofreading.
Be prepared for the production of letters and memorandums, reports, tables, résumés, and material from rough draft and unarranged copy. The real trick to success, though, is
memorizing the format guide! No joke! You do not want to waste your hour rummaging through those pages to try format it right. The link to the format guide can be found here http://www.fbla-pbl.org/docs/FBLA-PBLFormat%20Guide2010.pdf
Interview Events
FBLA has two competitive events where contestants will participate in a mock interview. These events are Future Business Leader and Job Interview. The skills needed for a job interview though are skills everyone will need at some point. An interview is a very important process and knowing how to succeed in one can come down to two basic steps, looking smart and being prepared. First impressions are something that cannot be redone. When you show up for an interview it is important to dress for success. Dress in clothes that fit the work environment but avoid wearing anything to excessive that would distract away from the topic of the interview, you. If you follow FBLA dress codes you will be more than ready for the interview.
Being prepared for an interview is equally if not more important. Once you make that first impression it is important for
you to follow it up with an impressive interview. Being prepared involves:
Follow these tips and you'll make your interview both successful and memorable.
Written Events
Many of the competitive events are given in the form of a written test. Here are some ways to prepare yourself for a written test:

Written Events
Many of the competitive events are given in the form of a written test. Here are some ways to prepare yourself for a written test:
- Know your topic. Have an idea about what is going to be on the test. It is always good to have some kind of background in any written test you are planning to take.
- Sleep! The night before, make sure you get plenty of sleep. It is easier to recall information when you have had enough rest.
- Eat. Especially if your test is scheduled right away in the morning, eat breakfast before going to the test sight. You will have a much easier time concentrating if you don't have to think about a grumbling stomach.
- Study, study, study! Did i mention you should study? Not just the day before, or the day of your test, but prepare before hand. Start looking at the sample tests on Nation page weeks, or even months, before the conference.
